The definition

Usage rate (USG%) is the share of a team's possessions a player ends while on the floor, by shooting, drawing free throws or turning the ball over. A player at 30% is a primary option; most rotation players sit between 15% and 25%.

HoopSim shows USG% in the Advanced view of the player stats pages, calculated with the standard formula below. In the game, usage follows your Game Plan: up to three key players get a lot more touches, a key big gets fed in the post, and a star who takes too many shots loses efficiency and tires faster. The ball also finds the players who fit your focus, post scorers inside and shooters outside.
