The definition

Defensive rating (DRtg) is points allowed per 100 possessions. Lower is better, and like offensive rating it strips out pace so fast and slow teams can be compared.

HoopSim computes a team's defensive rating as 100 times opponent points divided by opponent possessions and shows DRTG alongside ORTG. In the sim it comes from your defensive choices and your personnel: Man is the baseline, Zone leaves shooters open but saves legs and fouls, Help protects the rim but invites threes, Trap forces turnovers but fouls the most, the Press tires all five defenders and gives away reaching fouls, Box out cuts second chances, and Intensity makes closeouts on jumpers harder at the cost of legs. Schemes beyond man also need a head coach who can teach them, or coverages break down.

Formula
DRtg100 x opponent PTS / opponent possessions
