The definition

True shooting percentage (TS%) measures scoring efficiency across field goals, three-pointers and free throws together, as points per shooting possession. It is the fairest single number for comparing a foul-drawing driver with a spot-up shooter.

HoopSim computes TS% from points, field goal attempts and free throw attempts with the standard formula and shows it on the player stats pages. Players who get to the line raise their TS% without raising their field goal percentage, so a slasher with a modest eFG% can be the more efficient scorer. In the sim, trips to the line come from drives and post-ups, the bonus, and intentional fouls late, and the home team gets a slightly friendlier whistle.

Example: 25 points on 15 field goal attempts and 8 free throw attempts is a TS% of 25 / (2 x (15 + 0.44 x 8)) = 67.6%.
