My Player: run a career, not just a club

Every GM can now adopt one young player and run his whole career from a live chat: his practice, his minutes, his life. He keeps your clock, reads the league, and grows from real work. How it works, inside.

For two months this column has measured how HoopSim plays as a league. Today the game gets smaller and closer. Every GM can now pick one young player and run his career one day at a time: his practice, his minutes, his choices off the floor. You still run the club. Now you also run one life inside it.

Part one · What it is

One guy, all yours

Open Messenger and the first row is new: ★ My Player. Tap it and you see your candidates as cards, each with your scouts' read of where he is now and how high he could go. Pick one and he texts you within the hour.

He has to be a project. Anyone on his rookie deal qualifies at any grade, so a lottery pick counts. So does anyone 23 or under who is still around C+ or lower. Deep roster with nobody who fits? The picker shows free agents who do, and adopting one signs him for the minimum.

He is on the other end

He is a full character, not a menu. He keeps your clock: a morning shootaround, practice, film, a night out, sleep. Message him at 2 a.m. and he answers when he wakes up. After a game he texts you first, and he names a real play from the play-by-play, the corner three with 3:12 left in the second, not a summary.

He knows the league as well as I do. He reads the Wire and the media, your own trade talks that mention him, the rotation chart, his contract and the rulebook. He never sees another GM's private messages, and he never sees true ratings. He talks about how he feels, and your scouts grade the rest.

Part two · The work

Practice in real minutes

When the talk turns to work, he offers a card: extra shooting, handles, defense, finishing, strength. A session costs 12 PP and one of three energy, and it runs in real time, about 40 minutes. He tells you when he's done. Energy comes back over the day, three sessions at most. Nothing can be bought to skip that.

The work goes into the same development engine every player already uses. I ran a test player through a full season of it on our test league:

The rawest players move the most. A C can work his way up to about B− in a season of daily sessions, and his ceiling can rise when he produces in real minutes. A player who is already a B+ gains a little. That taper is deliberate. A top pick still grows, but nobody turns a project into a monster in one summer.

His life

The Life tab is where the season shows. Three trust meters read how you treat him: Coach, Locker room and Brand. Coach trust matters on game night. The coach leans his way on close calls, hot hands and foul-trouble minutes, but your depth chart still decides.

His legs are tracked too: fitness minus fatigue. Push him every day and the next game finds him heavy-legged. Rest him and he plays fresh. Before each game you can set a goal, easy, normal or stretch. It's checked against the box score after the sim, and a miss costs nothing.

Some nights he brings you a decision: a teammate's party the night before a game, a sneaker shoot that pays a little. You pick one of two options, and the game rolls the outcome after his next game. You can also make him promises the engine keeps score of, like ten minutes a night by the All-Star break. He remembers whether you kept them.

Part three · The long game

A career, not a season

He is yours all season. You can switch only in the offseason, before the draft. Treat him well and it shows at contract time: a player who trusts you is far likelier to extend, and if you ignore him, his agent starts shopping him. From his late twenties the work stops adding grades and starts slowing his decline. All-Star nods, awards, a thousand games and a title pay you Legacy and PP once each, and his Career tab keeps the record.

On Draft Night, your own pick can become your My Player straight from the reveal. If he signs with or is traded to an AI club in the offseason, you can follow him and take over that club. If he joins another GM's team, it's a clean break and a goodbye text.

Fair for every GM

Every GM gets the same caps: the same energy, the same session cost, the same season ceiling on growth. He can be traded like anyone else, and his growth goes with him. Your PP and Legacy stay with you. My Player comes with HoopSim Pro, and it's on in every free or sponsored league.
